Transportation
Korea is amazingly easy to get around once you work out how. Not only that, but it’s inexpensive, meaning you have no excuse not to see the country!
Subway
Seoul’s subway system is one of the most modern in the world. This, coupled with cheap tickets, quiet and spacious trains and a regular service means that the subway is the transport of choice in Seoul. Most ticket office attendants speak some form of English and even if they don’t, there is always someone happy to take a moment to point you in the right direction.

The Subway on most lines runs between roughly 05:00 and 12:30.

Bus

The bus system in Korea is probably the most daunting form of transport, yet it’s also gives the most value for money. There is a bus that will take you up almost any street in the cities and the intercity buses are also both cheap and incredibly comfortable.

Taxi

Taxis are everywhere in the major cities. Sometimes it can seem that every third car on the road is a taxi! Despite most drivers speaking very little English, taxis are the best form of transport if you’re in a rush. The best part is that they’re in expensive. Even taking one from one end of Seoul to the other in rush hour will only set you back £10.

Taxi drivers love to chat to you in Korean or English, if they know any. Impress them with your new Korean language skills and you’ll find they take you on a much more direct route to your destination!

KTX

With Korea’s new KTX bullet train, nowhere in Korea is too far to visit for the weekend. You can now get from Seoul to Busan on the South coast in roughly three hours. High speed combined with comfort means that almost every seat on each train is sold out. Book early, especially over the Korean national holidays!

Domestic flights are becoming increasingly common within Korea, with hundres of thousands of people choosing to fly from Seoul to Jeju Island every year.

The country has two major airlines, Korean Air and Asiana, both of which fly to many destinations internationally.

T-Money Card

The T-Money card is a pre-paid card used on all subways and buses. It is also becoming increasingly popular to find in taxis. This should be one of your first purchases in Korea as it is much more convenient and cheaper than purchasing individual tickets.
